“Following a brief shoot out in the orchard area of Gahand village the two militants were killed. Their exact identities and affiliations are being ascertained,” an officer was quoted as saying by IANS. The encounter broke out as the security forces laid a cordon and search operation in the region during wee hours on the basis of specific inputs of 2 to 3 terrorists hiding in the orchards of Gahand Harmain. In a similar incident on April 6, the security forces had killed two terrorists in an encounter that broke out at Imam Sahib area of Shopian district.

Earlier, three terrorists were neutralised following an intense gunfight with the security forces in Keller area of Shopian district in the state. The encounter was carried out by a joint search party of the CRPF, Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

“The terrorists killed in the encounter in Shopian district, earlier today, have been identified as Sajad Khanday, Aqib Ahmad Dar and Basharat Ahmad Mir, all residents of Pulwama. It was a combined group of terror outfits Hizbul Mujahideen and LeT,” a statement released by the Jammu and Kashmir Police over the Keller encounter stated.
