Srinagar: One security personnel was on Sunday martyred in an encounter which broke out between security forces and terrorists in Kapran Batagund area of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir. Further, six militants were also killed in the operation. Huge Cache of arms has been recovered from terrorists. “The deceased terrorists have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Abass Bhatt, Umar Majeed Ganaie, Mohd Waseem Wagay, Khalid Farooq Mali and one terrorist is learnt to be a foreigner from Pakistan,” a police official told ANI. Earlier on November 23, six terrorists were killed in an encounter which broke out between security forces and terrorists in Sekipora area of Bijbehara in Anantnag district. Further, arms and ammunition were also recovered from the custody of terrorists. One of the terrorists named Azad Ahmad Malik, who was allegedly involved in the murder of journalist Shujaat Bukhari,  was also killed in the operation. Malik was being investigated for the murder of Shujaat Bukhari.

The valley has hardly seen a let up in such incidents. In another incident on November 18, two terrorists were killed in an encounter between terrorists and security forces at Rebban area of Zainapora village in Shopian district. Police said that a search and cordon operation was launched in the area after the forces received specific inputs about the presence of terrorists hiding in the region. “As search operation was going on, a search party was fired upon by the hiding terrorists. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, 2 terrorists were killed and bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Identities are being ascertained,” police added.
