New Delhi, Mar 12: Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu has been dropped from the state cabinet for his remark that Kashmir is not a ‘political issue’. The minister’s statement had drawn criticism from the political fraternity of the state. J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has written a letter to Governor Narinder Nath Vohra for a final decision on sacking of Drabu.

Drabu stoked a controversy by saying that Jammu and Kashmir should not be seen as a conflict state or a political problem, but as a society with social issues.

On March 9, while addressing an event themed ‘Kashmir: the way forward, he reportedly said, “It (J&K) is not a political issue as far as I can see. They have been barking up the wrong tree for the last 50 or 70 years by talking about the politics of it, that the political situation has never improved. We seriously need to look at in terms of how it is a society that is in search for itself.”

Meanwhile, official handle of PDP on twitter reacted on the statement and said, ” Party recognizes J&K as a political issue & ever since its emergence has relentlessly been pursuing its resolution through reconciliation & dialogue. Senior leaders should b careful in their statements & observations while commenting on our basic pol philosophy & core agenda.”

Dabru role was very important during the negotiations between PDP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership before government formation in the state.
