New Delhi, Oct 9: A 5-year old boy was critically injured after stone pelting incident took place in south Kashmir’s Pahoo village of Pulwama district. The protest broke out during the ‘bandh’, which was called by Kashmiri separatists leaders against the braid-chopping incidents.

Talking to news agency IANS, a police officer said, “A minor boy was seriously injured after miscreants pelted stones on vehicles near Pahoo Bridge in Pulwama. He also apprised that some people had blocked the Pulwama-Srinagar road there amid the shutdown call.

Reportedly, the miscreants pelted stones on private as well as commercial vehicles plying on the road in which the five-year-old Sifti Hyder, son of Reyaz Ahmad Malik of Gangoo Pulwama, was critically wounded, after being hit by a stone on his head.

As per the reports, Sifti Hyder was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment from where he was referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar in critical condition for further treatment. A police party rushed to the spot and chased away the stone pelters.

Earlier on Sunday, the separatists had called for a shutdown against the incidents of braid-chopping. In a statement, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik had yesterday said that the incidents were part of a “well-thought-out” conspiracy. “The dignity of womenfolk is at stake,” they said and urged the people to observe a total shutdown against the humiliation meted out to women.
