Srinagar, Sep 5: Hundreds of people have abandoned their homes as the flood situation turned grim in the Valley on Friday. The flood situation became serious with unprecedented heavy downpour continuing for the fourth day on Friday.
The administration here is finding it difficult to reach the inundated areas. Reports from all the 10 districts of the Valley indicate hundreds have abandoned homes in inundated areas to shift to safer places.
Electric supply in most areas of South Kashmir districts remains suspended because of uprooted electric poles and apprehensions of accidents due to electric short circuits in water logged villages and towns.
The toll in the incessant rains and flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir rose to 20, even as 45 others were feared dead after a bus carrying them was washed away in Rajouri district. “So far 20 deaths have been reported in the state due to heavy rains and floods,” Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather told reporters at a joint press conference with Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand in Srinagar.
