New Delhi: A major fire broke out at an Army camp near the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Police said that the fire was reported at 45 Rashtriya Rifles headquarters in Hamar Gali area in Machil Sector due to short circuit around 1 pm in the afternoon.
Police said that the fire engulfed many structures in the camp where large quantities of fuel, firearms and ammunition are stored. The blaze was triggered by a short circuit. Sabotage has been ruled out so far.
Panic gripped in the area due to the unfortunate incident. Army personnel are putting efforts are on to douse the flames. A thick cloud of smoke was seen emanating from the far.
Recently, a terrorist was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Anantnag district. As per reports, three terrorists had holed up in Kokernag area. As a precautionary measure, authorities had suspended mobile internet services in the district.
The operation was launched following a tip-off about the holed-up militants in Gadole village.
