On March 9, the Pakistani troops resorted to ceasefire violation in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district in the state. Prior to that, at least four civilians, including three members of a family, were killed and several others injured in over 60 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts. Notably, there has been an increase in incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan after Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out ‘pre-emptive airstrike’ on Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camps in Balakot in Pakistan on February 26. The action was taken in retaliation to dastardly Pulwama terror attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed after an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into a bus in the convoy, a little before it was to reach the destination in south Kashmir. In February, the government informed Parliament that the number of ceasefire violations or cross-border firings in Jammu and Kashmir more than doubled in 2018 compared to the previous year, while the casualties the BSF suffered in terms of death of its jawans in these incidents increased by three times.
