Uri: At least seven civilians have been injured in the ceasefire violation by Pakistan at Gawahalan, Chokas, Kiker and Kathi posts in Uri’s Baramulla on Thursday night. The injured are currently being treated at a hospital.
As per reports, intermittent firing continued throughout the night.
Earlier, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along Line of Control (LoC) in Balnoi sector of Mendhar in Jammu and Kashmir during wee hours of Thursday. The Indian Army gave a befitting reply to the intermittent firing. During the day, they resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district of the state. No injuries or casualties were reported on either side.
Pakistan had violated ceasefire in the Nowshera and Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir and injured five soldiers on February 27. The Pakistan Army had used heavy weaponry, firing 120 mm mortars targeting some 55 civilian hamlets and forward posts in Krishna Gati, Balakote, Khari Karmara, Mankote, Tarkundi in Poonch district, Kalal, Baba Khori, Kalsian, Laam and Jhangar areas in Rajouri and Pallanwala and Laleali in Jammu.
The unprovoked shelling had occurred hours after Indian Air Force (IAF) combat jets dismantled Jaish-e-Mohammed’s (JeM) biggest camp in Pakistan’s Balakot in a pre-dawn strike.
The strike was carried out by 12 IAF Mirage 2000 jets which dropped six 1,000 kg laser-guided bombs in all hideouts and killed as many as 300 terrorists, said reports. “This was an intelligence-based counter-terror strike not a military action for sake of war. Have demolished entire terror set up in the suicide bombing training centre in Balakot, and over 300 terrorists were eliminated in the covert operation by Indian Air Force,” ANI had stated.
