New Delhi,December 24 : In another gruesome attack in the Kashmir valley, a police convoy was attacked by unidentified militants at the Bijbehara area of Anantag on Thursday. At least two policemen were injured in south Kashmir when militants opened fire at a police team posted on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway. Preliminary reports suggest the militants opened fire at a police party headed by sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) in Bijbehara area, Anantnag district, around 48 km south of Srinagar.(ALSO READ: Jammu & Kashmir: Major terror attack averted as CRPF shot down two heavily armed militants entering Srinagar). The two injured cops, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) level officer, were shifted to the Army Hospital, where they are admitted in a critical condition. The attack also comes just a day after security forces pasted posters of militants in Tral, south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Coincidentally on December 8, two militants were also killed in the nearby district of Pampore. On November 20, a grenade was directed at the security forces in south Kashmir.

The recent incident comes only a day after two people were killed in a blast that had hit a village in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday, ANI had reported. The present scenario also coming at a time when the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Saeed praised the central government’s efforts to improve relations with neighboring Pakistan.

The enmity between the two nations has been the source of conflict in the border areas, which have always been caught in the cross fire.
