New Delhi, Aug 21: The security forces and terrorists exchanged gunfire in Handwara town of Jammu and Kashmir, news agency ANI reported on Tuesday. ANI reported that the encounter is underway and security forces are also retaliating strongly. No casualty or damage has been reported so far. More details are awaited. The exchange of fire comes days after a policeman was martyred and three security forces personnel were left injured in an encounter that broke out in Batamaloo area. “On a specific information about the presence of terrorists in a hideout, an operation was launched in Batmaloo Srinagar leading to exchange of fire, one SOG boy martyred, one JKP and 2 CRPF Jawans sustained injuries, operation continues,” Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid had tweeted. Earlier, two terrorists were gunned down by security forces during an encounter in Sopore of Baramullah district. The operation was launched on reports of the presence of two terrorists in Drusu area. Reports had claimed that one of the two terrorists was a BTech student from Pulwama. His family had appealed to him on social media to give up militancy.
Earlier this month, two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorists were killed in an encounter in Kupwara district. The exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces had started during a Naka checking.
