Following specific inputs, security forces laid a cordon around Kachlu village in Kralgund area. When the cordon was tightened, hiding militants opened fire triggering the encounter in which the soldier was injured. Another encounter is currently underway between security forces and terrorists in Hajin area of Bandipora, news agency ANI reported.
The Kupwara encounter has come a few days after one policeman was killed and four people were injured in a gunfight between militants and security forces here, authorities said. Upon receiving a tip-off about the holed-up militants, the security forces cordoned off the Deyarwani locality in Batmaloo area.
The militants then fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight. “A major militant hideout was busted today. A civilian, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers and a policeman were injured in the encounter,” the police said. Two militant over ground workers (OGWs) were arrested during searches at the gunfight site.
Two days before the Batmaloo encounter, the security forces gunned down four militants after the forces received a tip-off about the holed up militants. The army started a cordon and search operation. A para commando of the Indian Army was also injured in the gunfight in the forests of Rafiabad in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said.
