New Delhi: In yet another shameful incident, a teenager girl from the nomadic tribe was raped in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident took place a few days earlier when she was grazing cattle in the field. The victim father said that the girl was accosted by four-five men when she was grazing cattle. “She asked them to leave her but they didn’t listen. The men beat her up and one of them raped her until she was unconsciousness,” father said as quoted by a news website. The matter came to light when she became pregnant and revealed her ordeal to parents. The girl said that she remained silent earlier because the perpetrator had threatened to kill her and her family if she revealed the incident to anyone. The girl was taken to hospital where the doctor said that there was a complication in her foetus because of which she had to undergo an abortion. The girl was shifted to Ramban hospital from where she was referred to Jammu hospital.

The villagers staged a protest in the area and demanded strict action by the police. Reportedly, the rape is seen as an attempt to remove Muslims from the area.

Police have arrested one of the accused and search has been launched to nab others. An FIR has been registered on the basis of the victim’s mother complaint.

Last year, an eight-year-old girl child belonging to a minority nomadic community was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a juvenile. The girl was later killed.
