Srinagar, Jul 19: Terrorists open fired upon a police party at Sopore bypass in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. As per the latest reports, the area has been cordoned off. Earlier on Wednesday, terrorists hurled hand grenade at a police post in Watergam area of Sopore district. Giving a befitting reply, the security personnel retaliated with firing and simultaneously launched a search operation in the area. The incidents came weeks after a CRPF jawan was injured after terrorists hurled grenade on patrol party in Hyderpora area of Budgam district.

Earlier on May 23, six civilians were injured in the grenade attack at Bijbehara town of Anantnag district. Two days later, two policemen and a civilian were injured in a similar attack at a bus stand on Jammu’s BC road.

Meanwhile, an intelligence agency has warned that Pakistan based terror groups — Lashkar-a-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) are planning to launch Pathankot style attack on India, a report said. The terrorists will target Indian Naval Base and for this they are being given underwater attack training and deep sea techniques to attack Navy, it was claimed.

Union Minister Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, while replying to a written question in Rajya Sabha, said that 100 militants and 43 security personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the first six months of this year.
