“Three Army jawans were injured during the exchange of fire and were evacuated to Army hospital. Killed terrorists are from Jaish-e-Mohammed and reportedly include a top terrorist commander known to be an IED expert”, DGP Dilbagh Singh told media.

“He was taking instructions from Pakistani handlers and was responsible for a large number of attacks against security forces in the recent past. He was reportedly able to escape from three-four encounters, leaving behind an MO4 American rifle in one case”, he further said.

Earlier, the encounter broke out after a joint team of the J&K Police, CRPF and 19 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army launched a joint, pre-dawn operation after receiving a specific input on the presence of terrorists in the area.

The search operation turned into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. A fierce gun battle followed resulting in the deaths of the three terrorists and injuries to the two soldiers.
