Srinagar, Jun 16: Terrorists on Saturday opened fire upon two civilians in Shopian district. Both the injured have been admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, more details are awaited.
The attack comes a few hours after a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured in firing by a terrorist upon troops of 29 Battalion of CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police at Pantha Chowk in Srinagar.
The incident comes a day after two police personnel and one civilian were injured in a terrorist attack at a police patrolling party in Srinagar.
Since few days, the state has been witnessing a huge spurt in terror activity.
Earlier on Thursday, veteran journalist and editor of Rising Kashmir newspaper Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead by gunmen in Press Colony in Srinagar. In another incident, an Army jawan Aurangzeb, who was on his way to his home for Eid leave, was abducted by terrorists in Shopian. His bullet-riddled body was found in Pulwama later in the day.
The incident has drawn a huge outrage in the Valley with many calling it an ‘act of cowardice’.
In total, the valley has witnessed the killings of over 55 militants and the deaths of 27 locals this year. The situation in Kashmir is considered to be turbulent as nearly 80 incidents of violence occurred there in the last four months. Civilians were often seen thronging to encounter sites to stage protests with the intention of giving the militants an opportunity to escape.
