Srinagar: Two terrorists were on Sunday killed in an encounter with the security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The encounter broke out during wee hours on May 12. The security forces had laid a cordon and search operation in the area after receiving specific inputs about the presence of 2-3 terrorists in the area.
“As the cordon was tightened, the hidden militants opened fire, triggering an encounter. Two militants have been killed,” a police officer said.
The slain militants were identified as Basharat Ahmad and Tariq Ahmed, both locals. “Tariq Ahmed was an SPO before he joined the militant ranks. He had escaped with a weapon in April last year,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, a huge cache of weapons and ammunition has been recovered from the spot.
