New Delhi, July 23: Uttar Pradesh police arrested four accused in connection with the gruesome Jewar rape and murder case after an encounter on early Sunday morning.  Initial reports suggest two of their accomplices managed to flee. One of the four arrested criminals also got injured in police firing; he was admitted to a hospital. This is a major break through for the law enforcement agencies after remaining empty-handed for two months after the crime.

The criminals had allegedly abducted a family from the highway in Jewar and gangraped four women and murdered a male member on May 25. The family had been going to Bulandshahr. The criminals intercepted their car and led them to a field adjacent to Jewar-Bulandshahr highway, where they gangraped four women of the same family. When a male member resisted, he was shot dead. The Uttar Pradesh government had to face opposition’s flak as the incident attracted national outrage.

According to Hindustan Times, the police followed a tip off that the accused were present near Sabota village underpass. Jewar police and crime branch cordoned off the area to round them up. The criminals opened fire at the police party. The encounter started at 2:30 am and ended after two hours. Two miscreants managed to flee, while one was admitted to hospital with bullet injuries.
