The JMM is supporting Menon Ekka who is the wife of former minister Enos Ekka.
The Kolebira seat fell vacant after Enos Ekka was convicted in the murder case of a teacher and awarded life sentence. In Kolebira, there are 2,79,332 voters. There are 270 polling booths, of which 70 are sensitive.
The results of the Kolebira bypoll will be announced on December 23. It is assumed that the result will set the tone for the battle for upcoming Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand in the general elections due a few months from now, as well as the Assembly elections in the state that are likely to take place towards the end of next year.
Recently, Congress has grabbed three important seats in the assembly elections. Reportedly, BJP has never won the seat from here. The saffron party hopes that a win in Kolebira would help it counter the perception that there is a huge shift of Adivasi voters away from it.
