Ranchi, Feb 1: A man allegedly beheaded his wife and kept her body in the bed box at the rented accommodation in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. He is on the run. The 16-year-old daughter of the couple reportedly informed the police about “something bad happening to her mother”. Meanwhile, the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

The incident came to light on Tuesday when the daughter of the accused, Vinod Pathak, called police, at a time when he had come to lodge a “missing person’s complaint” for his wife.

The police added that marital discord over an affair could be the reason behind the murder.

A police officer was quoted by The Indian Express as saying that a call by the daughter of Pathak was received at the police station when he was getting the complaint lodged about his wife Anu Pathak at Badee Bazar police outpost under Sadar police station area. The teenager informed the police that something bad happened to her mother and her father may be responsible for it.

The police then took the man to the house and opened the bed box only to find the body of Anu Pathak. Realising that he may be arrested, Vinod fled from the spot.

According to the preliminary investigation, Vinod, a head clerk with Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) in Hazaribagh, used to live with his wife Anu and three daughters — Kriti (16), Vani (13) and Vansh (11) — in Jai Prabha Nagar locality.

The couple had a fight over a petty issue on Monday night.
