New Delhi, April 15: Gujarat independent MLA Jignesh Mevani was detained at Jaipur airport for few hours on Sunday. He also took to the micro-blogging site to complain about the incident. He wrote, “For urgent attention of media: today, immediately after I landed at Jaipur airport, few cops made me sign a letter saying MLA Jignesh Mevani’s entry is restricted in entire nagor district of Rajasthan. In a series of tweets he also attacked Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and said, “If Bhagwat was going at Nagor district of Rajasthan to talk about Manusmriti, Raje would have allowed him. According to reports, the police authorities have said that Jignesh Mevani’s address at the meeting may create ‘law and order situation’ and hence he was prohibited from taking part in and addressing such gatherings.
On Saturday, a scuffle involving supporters of Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders broke out during the celebration of BR Ambedkar birth anniversary in Ahmedabad. Mevani supporters allegedly tried to stop BJP MPs and members from garlanding Ambedkar’s statue.
Earlier also, the BJP had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Gujarat independent MLA Jignesh Mevani for his speech in Chitradurga in which he urged youth to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign program scheduled ahead of the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018.
