Shopian:  Terrorists fired upon two civilians at Zainapora area of Shopian on Wednesday evening. Both the injured have been shifted to a hospital in the area.

Last month, at least two civilians were held hostage by terrorists during the encounter in Hajin, Bandipora in Jammu and Kashmir. Of the two, one was rescued safely, the Jammu and Kashmir police had said.  On March 3, a civilian was killed in the crossfire between militants and the security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Prior to that, at least seven civilians were injured in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan at Gawahalan, Chokas, Kiker and Kathi posts in Uri’s Baramulla. The injured were later treated at a hospital.

Earlier this year, the Lok Sabha informed that as many as 838 terrorists and 183 civilians were killed in Jammu and Kashmir since 2014.

Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir had said that since 2014 till December 31 last year there were 1,213 incidents involving terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. “In these incidents, 183 civilians lost their lives and 838 terrorists were neutralised,” he had said replying a written question.

Ahir said during this period, six incidents involving terrorists were reported from other parts of the country in which 11 civilians lost their lives and seven terrorists were neutralised.
