J&K: Two Terrorists, Including LeT Commander Bashir Lashkari, Killed in Anantnag Encounter

Two terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Bashir Ah Wani alias Lashkari, were neutralised in an encounter with security forces in Dailgam village in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The encounter broke out on Saturday early morning when the security forces laid a cordon in the village on the information about two terrorists being holed up in the region.

Anantnag, July 1: Two terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Bashir Lashkari, were neutralised in an encounter with security forces in Dailgam village in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Another terrorist has been identified as Azad Malik.  Speaking to media, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid confirmed that two terrorists have been killed in Anantnag encounter.

The encounter broke out on Saturday early morning when the security forces laid a cordon in the village on the information about two terrorists being holed up in the region. As per reports, two civilians, including a woman, have been killed in the cross-fire between the terrorists and the security forces and according to the latest information, 17 civilians have also been rescued while, over 10 persons were injured.

Reportedly, Bashir Lashkari carries a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head and is said to be the mastermind of the June 16 terrorist attack on a police party in the outskirts of Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

Who is Bashir Lashkari?

• It was in 1999 that Bashir Lashkari, who hails from Kokernag area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir, crossed to POK.
• In 2012, he returned from POK under state government ammenisty scheme announced by Omar Abdullah government and was jailed till 2014. He got reactivate as terrorist in 2015.
• Lashkari is the most wanted Lashker Commander with bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
• If reports are to be believed, Lashkari is also responsible for killing of SHO Feroz with other 5 policeman last month.

Similar operations were launched in the villages of Baghpora, Magraypora and Marhama in Anantnag on June 22 after the security forces received information of some terrorists hiding in the region. A cordon was laid by the joint team of Army’s first Rashtriya Rifles and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police.

On June 21, the Army had gunned down three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants in an encounter that lasted for over six hours in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
