JNU is overrated institution, Kanhaiya Kumar is pseudo-revolutionary: Justice Markandey Katju
"Of course the students of JNU know how to shout 'halla bol', 'azadi', etc, but there is no deep scientific analysis of the country's problems and how to solve them."
New Delhi, May 6: Known for stoking controversies through his politically incorrect remarks, Justice Markandey Katju once again triggered a row on Friday by lambasting Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union leader Kanhaiya Kumar. The former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court claimed that Kanhaiya is pseudo-revolutionary, who could only indulge in rhetoric rather than providing scientific solutions to the issues plaguing the nation. Katju not only lashed out at Kanhaiya, but he also criticised the institution of JNU, calling it highly “overrated”.
“JNU is a highly overrated institution, and I have a poor opinion about it, and students like Kanhaiya, etc,” Katju said. “Of course the students of JNU know how to shout ‘halla bol’, ‘azadi’, etc, but there is no deep scientific analysis of the country’s problems and how to solve them. It reminds me of a line in Shakespeare’s Macbeth ‘ It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” (ALSO READ: Justice Markandey Katju demands apology from Arvind Kejriwal for spreading ‘sensational rumours’)
Ridiculing the speeches given by Kanhaiya and other JNU students caught in anti-national row, Katju said, “Some JNU students are regarded great orators and revolutionaries, but if after hearing them one asks what is the substance of what they have said one finds it was all empty froth.”
The former judge reiterated that the central issues plaguing the nation is massive unemployment, along with poverty, malnutrition, lack of healthcare facilities and quality education. “What is the solution offered to solve these massive problems by Kanhaiya and the other ‘heroes’ of JNU? It is zero,” he added.

Katju claimed that he has been invited by some JNU students to the campus to deliver a speech. However, he has agreed to come only if the JNU students’ union passes a resolution inviting him. Katju promises to tear into Kanhaiya, and other ‘pseudo-revolutionaries’ of JNU, if provided the invitation to visit the campus and address the students.
