JNU row: Left students’ group block New Delhi-Darbhanga train demanding release of Kanhaiya Kumar

Kanhaiya was arrested by Delhi Police in the past week on charges of organizing the Kashmir secessionist rallies and delivering an anti-national speech to the frenzied mob raising anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans.

New Delhi, Feb 19: Several Left Students’ group assembled in the national capital on Friday to stage a massive protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre. The communist activists blocked the railway lines between Delhi and Bihar. The Sampark Kranti Express plying between New Delhi and Darbhanga in Bihar was stopped as students demonstrated on the tracks, demanding the release of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Student Union President Kanhaiya Kumar.

Activists of Student Federation of India (SFI), All India Student Association (AISA), All India Student Federation (AISF) and Democratic Students’ Union (DSU) have assembled their cadres in New Delhi to stage massive protest throughout the day. Their demand is the immediate release of Kanhaiya Kumar, apart from dropping the draconian charge of sedition levelled against him on frivolous accounts. Meanwhile, Supreme Court is scheduled today to hear the plea of Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail. The JNU leader moved the apex judiciary on Wednesday after he was attacked outside Patiala House Court by lawyers and BJP workers. Currently, Kanhaiya is placed under judicial custody. He would be represented in the apex court by former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee.
