Mumbai, Feb 13: CPIM General secretary Sitaram Yechuri met the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday and demanded an independent probe into the Jawaharlal Nehru University row. The communist leader pointed out that in the name of probe the central government is defaming the renowned university.
“I met Mr Kejriwal as requested him to ensure a fair and independent probe into the JNU students’ arrest which has not been done on evidence but for ulterior political motives of the central government,” Yechuri told reporters as he was coming out after meeting Kejriwal.
Yechuri along with CPI leader D Raja and RJD leader KC Tyagi called on Kejriwal. “He (Kejriwal) has full right to order a probe and we have told him that the perpetrators should not be spared. They should be tried in the court of law according our constitution, but please don’t terrorize the campus with random arrests and harass innocent students,” Yechuri added.
Delhi police arrested JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and six more on Friday. There are more students whose names have been forwarded to JNU administration for any action to be taken against them for commemorating Afzal Guru inside the university campus.
