“I feel Atal ji had done a lot for the North-East as a Prime Minister. The best way to pay tribute to the visionary leader will be to name the Bogibeel Bridge as Atal Setu,” Phukan had said, while interacting with media in Dibrugarh on Friday.

Contrary to government’s opinion that renaming institutions, roads and welfare schemes would be a tribute to the former PM, his (Vajpayee) niece Karuna Shukla alleged that PM Narendra Modi as well as BJP is politicising Vajpayee’s demise for political gains in upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Shukla, who was once a BJP leader but is with the Congress now in an interview to a channel said,”The BJP is selfish and doing politics in the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
