New Delhi: Former Supreme Court Justice Markandey Katju has offered to rename a list of cities after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday renamed Allahabad city to Prayagraj. In a Facebook post written to Yogi Adityanath, Justice Katju said, “Congratulations on renaming Allahabad as Prayag. But of course, this is not enough. I suggest that the names of these Babars should be changed in the names of the UP cities to eliminate the names of the children. There is a prayer for this kind of kindness. ” He further suggested alternative names for all the cities mentioned in the list.” Also Read - 'Thrashed me at Gunpoint, Urinated on me': Wife Accuses UP Minister Baburam Nishad of Domestic Violence, Writes to PM

In the list of 18 cities in Uttar Pradesh, Katju suggested that Aligarh should be renamed as Ashwatthamanagar, Agra as Agastyanagar, Ghazipur as Ganeshpur and Shahjehanpur as Sugrivpur. Katju also suggested that in his list that Muzaffarnagar be changed to Murlimanoharnagar, Azamgarh to Alaknandapur, Hamirpur to Hastinapur, Lucknow to Laxmanpur, Bulandshahr to Bajrangbalipur, Faizabad to Narendramodipur, Fatehpur to Amitshahnagar, Ghaziabad to Gajendranagar, Firozabad to Dronacharyanagar, Farukhabad to Angadpur, Ghaziabad to Ghatotkachnagar, Sultanpur to Saraswathinagar, Moradabad to Mankibaatnagar, Mirzapur to Meerabai Nagar.

At the end of the list, Katju posted a thank you note which stated, “And for this act of kindness the petitioner shall forever pray”.

Last week, CM Adityanath stated that Allahabad will be renamed as Prayag Raj if everyone agrees to it. He explained, “Ganga aur Yamuna do pavitra nadi ka sangam ka sthal hone ke nate yahan sabhi prayago ka raaj hai, isiliye Allahabad ko Prayag raj bhi kehte hain (Two holy rivers, Ganga and Yamuna, join in Allahabad and hence there’s ‘raj’ of all ‘prayag’ (confluence of rivers). And therefore, Allahabad is also known as Prayag Raj).”
