New Delhi, Dec.22: With Rajya Sabha to take up the legislation of Juvenile Justice Bill for discussion, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien on Tuesday said the Bill should be passed in the Parliament today without any further delay after having a healthy discussion. “I am so proud and glad that the Trinamool Congress brought the issue in the Parliament yesterday and now the Bill (Juvenile Justice Bill) is listed. It is a good Bill, very good bill or ideal bill, lets debate and pass this bill. I request and appeal to everyone to discuss this bill for four hours and pass it today,” Brien told ANI here. Meanwhile, the parents of the December 16 gangrape victim met leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday, seeking the passage of the Juvenile Justice Bill which will allow children between 16-18 years to be tried as adults in heinous crime cases. The bill is expected to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha at 2pm on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed Maliwal’s plea against the release of the juvenile convict in the Nirbhaya gangrape case. Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal had described the Supreme Court’s dismissal of her plea to keep the juvenile offender involved in the December 16, 2012 gangrape case in continued detention as a black day for the country. She also squarely blamed members of the Rajya Sabha for delaying the passing of the pending Juvenile Justice Bill, which would have ensured what she and other women wanted.
