New Delhi: Kamalchand Bhanjdeo, the crown prince of the Bastar royal family, married Kumari Bhuvaneshwari, daughter of Maharaj Shivendra Pratap Singh of the Nagod royal family in Madhya Pradesh, on February 20. The grand event was organized at the Bastar Palace. This is the first royal wedding to take place at Bastar Palace in 100 years since its grand construction in 1890.

Kamalchand Bhanjdev is the current crown prince of the Bastar royal family. He completed his postgraduate studies in Political Science at the London School of Economics and also pursued International Business studies in London.

Claim on Kohinoor

According to Kamalchand Bhanjdeo, the Kohinoor diamond has deep ties to the Kakatiya rulers. He asserted that the Kohinoor once belonged to the Kakatiya royal family and was either stolen from the temple treasury or the royal treasury. He stated that the diamond was originally mined from the Golconda mines in Telangana. At that time, Telangana was under the rule of the Chalukya Kakatiya dynasty of the Warangal kingdom.

Kamalchand Bhanjdev states that during the 1303 battle between the Kakatiya royal family and Alauddin Khilji’s general, Malik Kafur, the Kohinoor diamond was looted. It later passed into the possession of Muslim rulers before ultimately being handed over to the British Crown.

It is important to note that the last royal wedding in the Bastar royal family took place in 1918, during the second marriage of Rudra Pratap Dev. His first marriage was in 1908 to Kusumlata, but after her passing, Maharaj Rudra Pratap Dev married Chandradevi.

However, just two years after their wedding, in 1921, Rudra Pratap Dev also passed away. Since then, no member of the royal family has been married at Bastar Palace. All subsequent weddings took place in different states.
