Bengaluru, Aug 23: A complaint was filed against Kannada actor-turned-politician Ramya’s statement on Pakistan saying that Pakistan is a good country and not hell. Congress’ Ramya faced sedition charges after a Karnataka-based advocate lodged a complaint against her for praising Pakistan. “Pak is a good country, not hell. Manohar Parrikar’s comment not true”, Ramya was quoted saying by ANI.
Ramya, also known as Divya Spandana made this statement on 20th August and created a storm on twitter. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had earlier made a statement saying, “going to Pakistan is like going to hell”. Referring to this comment, Ramya said, “Pakistan is not hell. Ramya, a Congress member was recently in Islamabad to attend a SAARC Young Parliamentarians Conference. A complaint against her has been filed by a K Vittal Gowda, a Coorg- based advocate, under Section 200 of Cr.Pc in the first Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Somwarpet. Gowda has accused Ramya of insulting India and provoking Indians by appreciating Pakistan and has requested the court to register a case against the actor under Sections 124A of the IPC, which deals with sedition, besides other charges, News18 reported. In an interview to CNN-News18, the actress said, “I’m entitled to freedom of speech. Nobody can curb it”. She also added saying, “It’s important that sedition law gets repealed. Didn’t do anything wrong. Pakistanis are good people, just like us. I do not blame anyone. People are very passionate about nationalism. These days it’s easy to polarize opinions”, as quoted by CNN.
