Kanpur, Jan 16: A 17-year-old girl set herself on fire on Sunday after being gang-raped by two brothers in Hamirpur, near Kanpur. The girl sustained 90 per cent burn injuries and passed away on the spot. She was about to be married in April. The FIR filed by the girl’s father said that the girl locked her inside a room and set herself on fire after pouring kerosene on herself. She died before being taken to a hospital. Her father said two brothers–Sunil Rajput (22) and Sonu Rajput (19)– gangraped her when she was alone in her house. The horrific incident occurred a day after disturbing reports of crimes against women came from Haryana. A 15-year-old girl was raped and brutalised by some assailants in Jind district. The girl’s body was found near a canal. Her autopsy report said that a blunt and hard object was insert into her private parts. A report also said that she might have been killed and brutalised after the assailants failed to rape her.
