Karjat, Aug 17: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Suresh Lad from Karjat Constituency in Raigad district of Maharashtra was caught in a shameful act where he was seen assaulting Abhay Kalgutkar, Deputy Collector in charge of the land acquisition. In a video that went viral on social media, Lad was seen slapping Kalgutkar in his office. The incident took place on Thursday evening at a meeting called by Kalgudkar to solve land acquisition related issue. Kalgutkar, however, refused to file a police complaint for all that happened and said that he has written a letter to his senior authority and did not file a police complaint for his own personal reasons. According to Lad, Kalgutkar deliberately delayed the procedure of land acquisition for farmers and for this, the NCP MLA along with his supporters reached Karjat Tehsildar office. Lad assaulted the official for the delay in the prcdeures and slapped Kalgutkar in his office, which he later denied.  Nawab Malik, NCP national spokesperson said that there is law in the country to protect government officials performing their duty and if the government official was assaulted, he should go and file a police complaint. Harassing and assaulting officials have become a repetitive act across the nation these days. Earlier, on Monday, Odisha’s state’s minister for micro, small and medium enterprise Yogendra Behera asked his security official to strap his shoes after the minister unfurled the national flag at an Independence Day function in Odisha’s Keonjhar. Behera repeatedly shouted “I am a VIP” and later, when his act came into limelight, blamed his poor health for his actions. When local television channels of Odisha aired the footage, Behera explained that his left leg is in a lot of pain and could not bend. “The personal security officer volunteered to tie my shoelaces. He is like my son,” the minister said.
