New Delhi: At least 25 people including women and children were killed after a private bus in which they were travelling in fell into a canal in south Karnataka on Saturday. The mishap took place in Mandya, which is around 105 km from capital city Bengaluru.
District officials along with locals were still recovering bodies from the canal. The reason of the mishap is yet to be ascertained.
“There is no clarity on the number of deaths as all those who were inside the bus have died. Only the surviving boy can give us more details. But he is in the state of shock,” a leading daily quoted police as saying.
Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy who is also in Mandya is like to visit the accident site later in the day.
A few days back in a similar incident, 12 people lost their lives in Cuttack after a bus carrying 30 passengers fell from the Mahanadi bridge near Jagatpur. The bus was on its way to Cuttack when it fell off the bridge near Jagatpur after hitting a buffalo. The buffalo was also killed in the mishap.
