Karnataka: 21-year-old Woman Immolates Self After Not Being Allowed to Construct Toilet at Home

The Karnataka police has registered a case against the 14 members of Gram Panchayat, however, no arrests have been made so far.

Bengaluru, Nov 30: A 21-year-old woman set herself on fire in Davangere district of Karnataka after not being allowed to construct a toilet at her home. Notably, she had the permission for the same but, was stopped by the Gram Panchayat.

As reported by Mirror Now, the Gram Panchayat opposed and stopped the construction of toilet midway which disheartened the woman that forced her to take the extreme step. The Karnataka police has registered a case against the 14 members of Gram Panchayat, however, no arrests have been made so far.

In a similar incident in 2016, a 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire as she was unhappy over lack of toilet at her house in Nalgonda district of Telangana. The incident occurred at Gundala village. The girl, a first-year intermediate student, doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire after her parents left for the work.
