“During United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule Rahul Gandhi had torn the ordinance which could save now fodder scams convict Lalu. As 2019 is approaching it seems Congress can’t win without Lalu ji’s support, and today he (Rahul Gandhi) met Lalu ji (in AIIMS),” Shah added.
Amit Shah further stated that Rahul met Lalu because 2019 general elections are near. The BJP chief is currently in Karnataka as a part of his campaigning for the upcoming Karnataka legislative assembly elections 2018. Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 to elect representatives to the 225-member state assembly. The results will be out on May 15.
Earlier in the day, AIIMS had referred Lalu back to Ranchi Medical College saying his condition has improved significantly. But Yadav dismissed AIIMS’ claims saying that he was still not fit enough to return to Ranchi. In a letter to the director of AIIMS, the RJD chief had said that he was not well and suspected that he was being sent back under political pressure.
RJD Chief Lalu Yadav was taken to AIIMS on March 29 and was undergoing treatment for various ailments related to heart and kidney. Earlier he was admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science in Ranchi on March 17 after he complained of uneasiness at Birsa Munda jail.
Notably, Lalu has been in the jail at Ranchi since December 23, 2017, after being convicted in the Deogarh treasury case. On March 24, the special CBI court in Ranchi had sentenced him to 14 years in prison seven under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and seven under the Prevention of Corruption Act in Dumka Treasury Case, one of the four cases in the Fodder Scam. Dumka treasury case is related to alleged withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from the Dumka treasury when Prasad was the chief minister of Bihar.
