“I am hurt by the attitude of the media. Certain elements are against me. They twist every comment made by me. It has caused me a lot of pain. His statement came in the backdrop of his remark about farmer leader Jayashree Gurannavar which went viral causing a huge embarrassment to the JD(S)-Congress government in the southern state. On Wednesday, the Kodagu JD(S) unit posted derogatory comments against the farmer leader on social media calling her a ‘Deal Rani’. Notably, the farmers are protesting in Belagavi for the last few days demanding clearance of their pending arrears by sugar factories for the cane supplied and announcement of purchase price for sugarcane for the current season. They had intensified their protest Sunday by “gatecrashing” their loaded trucks into “Suvarna Vidhana Soudha”. In a strong reaction, Kumaraswamy had described those who barged into the legislature complex as “goondas” and accused them of defaming the entire farming community.
Blaming the media, particularly Kannada news channels, for misquoting him, he reportedly said that he will continue to say whatever he wants to and it is the media to decide whether to report the same or not. “I won’t address press meets. If you want to report, please do. If you don’t want, please don’t do. I don’t mind,” he told News18.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to react on Kumaraswamy’s decision. Taking a jibe at the Karnataka Chief Minister, the state party chief and leader of Opposition BS Yeddyurappa termed the JD(S)-Congress coalition government a ‘disaster’. He called Kumaraswamy a ‘failed chief minister’. The former CM also accused him of holding the media responsible for his ‘flippant attitude and shortcomings’, reported News18.
