New Delhi, March 22: The dates of impending Assembly polls in Karnataka are yet to be announced but the political war of words between the ruling Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is getting intense by the day. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a blistering assault on the BJP on Thursday calling the saffron party ‘spineless’. The BJP responded in same vein asking him to waive off farmers loan showing his spine, if any.

Countering the BJP over the issue of farm loan waiver, Siddaramaiah accused the ruling party of favouring big industrialists and overlooking the woes of farmers.

“The Karnataka BJP is so spineless that instead of asking the center to waive farmers’ loans it is giving accountancy lessons on Twitter. People will not be fooled. Center can write off lakhs of crores of a few industrialists but can’t give debt relief to crores of farmer,” the Karnataka CM tweeted. Moments later, the BJP hit back at Siddaramaiah on the micro-blogging site asking him to use his ‘spine’ and waive farm loans similar to what chief ministers of UP and Maharashtra did.

The BJP went on further to attack Congress president Rahul Gandhi without naming him. “Yes, we were wrong in teaching accountacy. We realise it is beyond you and your boss’s comprehension levels!” BJP’s tweet read.

“Talking about spine, UP & MH CM’s exhibited their spine by waiving farm loans without centre’s help. If you have one, why don’t follow suit & waive farm loans yourself?” it added.

A couple of days ago, Rahul Gandhi, addressing a rally in the poll-bound state, had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre of doing nothing for farmers while writing off loans of industrialists to the tune of crores.

“In last few years, BJP government waived off loans of 2.5 lakh crore of 15 richest people. When farmers talk of loan waiver, PM Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley say it isn’t their policy. Siddharamaih ji and Congress government in Karnataka waived off loans of Rs 8,000 crore of farmers of Karnataka,” Rahul had said.
