New Delhi, Feb 20: Karnataka Congress leader Narayanaswamy on Monday courted controversy after being caught splashing petrol inside the premises of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office at Bengaluru’s Horamavu. Narayanaswamy, a close aid of Congress MLA Byrati Basavaraj, threatened to set the office on fire after a fake document, which he submitted was rejected by a BBMP official. The incident reportedly took place on Friday however, no action has been taken against the Congress leader as yet. As soon the matter came to light, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit out at Congress government over the behaviour of its leaders. Karnataka BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa took to Twitter and said,”While one MLA’s son tried to kill a commoner and his cronies attacked media, another leader threatens to set the BBMP office on fire. The arrogance & hooliganism of Congress leaders is touching new heights everyday. Union Minister Sadananda Gowda also lambasted Siddaramaiah government on the micro-blogging site saying,”I call it shame to Ruling Commission Government. INC Karnataka your party leader in K R Puram throwing Petrol inside Government office to put fire , for not supporting illegal khata . This is a sample of rowdism by supporters of MLA Bairatti Basavaraju in the Constituency.”
The incident came days after son of Congress MLA NA Haris got arrested in connection with a case of an assault at a pub in Bengaluru. Mohammed Haris Nalapad was accused of assaulting a youth at a pub in Karnataka’s UB city mall on Saturday.
