New Delhi, May 19: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena on Saturday demanded Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala’s resignation after BS Yeddyurappa resigned as the Chief Minister. Speaking to News18, Sharad Pawar said that inviting Yeddyurappa to form the government was the Governor’s fault which led to the whole fiasco. The demands were echoed by the Congress party and BJP ally Shiv Sena.

Blaming Governor Vala for the whole situation, Sharad Pawar said that he was not expecting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will go to any extent for power. “I was not expecting the BJP will go to any extent for power, I was wrong. If the governor has any sense, he must resign. I congratulate the MLAs of the Congress and the JD(S),” he said.

“The corrupt and criminal designs of the BJP have been defeated. This shows the Governor’s decision to invite the BJP to form a government was against his constitutional mandate. If the Governor of Karnataka has any shame left, he should submit his resignation as well. The Union Ministers sitting in Bangalore, facilitating and enabling corrupt deals, are equally culpable,” Sitaram Yechury was quoted as saying by Bangalore Mirror. (Also Read: BS Yeddyurappa top quotes in the Assembly)

Meanwhile, HD Kumaraswamy reached Governor Vala’s residence to stake claim to form the government. According to the reports, Kumaraswamy will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Monday, May 21. “Governor Kumaraswamy invited us (Congress and JDS) to form the government. Congress and JD(S) leaders will meet later to decide on the portfolios. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at Kanteerava Stadium,” he said.

Soon after Yeddyurappa resigned as Karnataka CM, Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP leaders for leaving the Assembly before the National Anthem. “…It shows they can disrespect any institution if in power, both BJP & RSS have disrespected institutions. In India, the will of the people cannot be disrespected. The will of the people is everything,” Gandhi said. He also said that the Congress has defeated the BJP. To which, the BJP said that his claims are laughable.
