Karnataka Lockdown News Today: In an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Thursday imposed fresh restrictions for the apartment complexes and societies and said the whole apartment complex will be declared ‘containment zone’ for a minimum of 7 days in case of more than 3 COVID cases are detected.
In the guidelines, the BBMP said that the residents of the apartment will be tested and the detailed contact tracing and surveillance to be done.
The BBMP has also asked the RWA members to ensure that the body temperature of all residents, house helps and visitors are checked. He said that the usage of masks should be ensured, and provision for hand sanitisation/handwash should be there in the common areas such as floor, railings, surfaces.
“The railing at staircases should be cleaned using Sodium Hypochlorite, bleaching power, or any effective disinfectant for maintaining the highest level of sanitation and hygiene,” the BBMP advised.
He also stated in the guidelines that the common areas like walkways and parks used for walking or jogging can be used subject to the strict maintenance of Covid appropriate behaviour (mask, social distancing).
Furthermore, the BBMP asked the RWAs to make common groups (MyGate, WhatsApp, Telegram) and use it for encouraging COVID vaccination and spreading awareness about the contagious disease
In the order, the parents in the apartment complexes have been asked to make their children wear masks in the open spaces and play areas.
Earlier in the day, BBMP chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta said all efforts are being made to handle medical exigencies in the wake of spike in Covid cases which has spurred concerns about hospitalization.
However, Gupta insisted that there is no need to panic and outlined the measures taken to contain the spread of the virus and strengthen medical infrastructure.
Giving further details, Gupta said: “There is reason to be concerned, but there is no need for fear. It is a time when one must proceed with caution.”
The assurance from the BBMP chief comes at a time when experts warn that daily cases could cross 25k per day in Bengaluru alone in the coming weeks.

The development comes 3 days after the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai ruled out easing restrictions at places with less positivity rate. He instead stressed the need to take extra precautions.
“No…what I had said is that depending on the COVID spread we will take a decision. Now you are seeing, yesterday there were 12,000 cases in the state, nearly 9,000 were only in Bengaluru. Positivity rate in the state is at 6.8 per cent, in Bengaluru it is 10 per cent, in the whole country we are in third place,” Bommai had said on Monday.
After the cabinet meeting last week, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy had said that with plans to relax COVID restrictions at places with less positivity rate, the government is likely to review the containment measures announced by it by January 14 or 15.
At the cabinet meeting chaired by Bommai, some Ministers had expressed reservations about enforcing restrictions across the state, especially in places where the positivity rate is low.
It must be noted that the Karnataka government on January 4 had imposed curfew on weekends and restricted public gatherings to fight the third wave of COVID-19, till January 19. It has also decided to continue the night curfew for two more weeks, and has prohibited all rallies, dharnas, protests, among others.
The development comes at a time when Karnataka on Wednesday registered 21,390 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 10 fatalities, taking the tally to 30,99,519 and the death toll to 38,389. The state has been witnessing a steady surge in cases since the last week of December and had reported 14,473 new infections yesterday.
