The counting of the votes is underway and the results are expected to be announced by 12 noon. The voting in the six legislative council seats — three each from graduates and teachers constituencies namely — had taken place on June 8. The six legislative council seats, that had gone to polls on June 8, include Karnataka Legislative Council from Karnataka South East Teachers’ Constituency, Karnataka South Teachers’ Constituency, Karnataka South West Teachers’ Constituency, Karnataka South West Graduates’ Constituency, Bangalore Graduates’ Constituency and Karnataka North East Graduates’ Constituency. The main parties contesting in the Karnataka Teachers, Graduate Constituency Elections 2018 include Congress, JD(S) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Although JD(S) formed a coalition government with Congress in the state following the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018, the two are fighting against each other in the Karnataka Teachers, Graduate Constituency Elections.

At the South Teachers constituency, former deputy chairman of legislative council Maritibbegowda is seeking re-election. While there’s former Hebbal MLA YA Narayanaswamy in the fray from South-East Teachers constituency, there’s senior BJP leader Ganesh Karnik in South-West Teachers constituency. Former Shivamogga MP Ayanur Manjunath is fighting from South-West Graduates constituency.

There are a total of 35 candidates contesting in the six legislative council seats.
