Karti Chidambaram Granted Bail in INX Media Case

Last week, the Supreme Court had granted interim protection to Karti from being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the case.

New Delhi, Mar 23: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to Karti Chidambaram in the INX media case. The bail was granted on a surety of Rs 10 lakh. Karti has been ordered not to leave the country, influence witnesses or close any bank accounts, reports ANI.

Last week, the Supreme Court had granted interim protection to Karti from being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the case. He is currently in jail in connection with the corruption case lodged by the CBI. According to the investigating agencies, Karti has continued to be defiant and evasive. He even took a dig at the government and was reported to have said, “I am not a Hindustan leaver.”

Trouble has been mounting for Karti, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s son, ever since ED sleuths claimed that INX media promoters Peter and Indrani Mukherjea had confessed that they met Chidambaram, then Union Finance Minister, in his North Block office where the latter asked them to help give a fillip to his son’s business in the form of foreign remittances.

On their part, the INX promoters claimed they engaged with Karti, agreeing on a deal of US$ 1 million, because they wanted their own issues with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) resolved and hoped to do so because of the latter’s relationship with the Finance Minister.
