Earlier in the day today, the main accused in Kasganj violence, Salim, confessed to firing shots and killing Chandan Gupta on January 26, TV reports claimed. The Uttar Pradesh Police had arrested him five days after the incident in connection with killing of the 22-year-old college student. At least three shops, two buses and a car were torched after Gupta died and as many as 118 people have been arrested till now.

Meanwhile, Zee News has reported that Salim’s brothers – Naseem and Waseem – too had fired shots. Notably, the police have intensified the combing operations to nab the duo.

Earlier, an FIR and statements by some of the witnesses had accused Salim of opening fire from the roof or balcony of his house during the Tiranga Yatra by ABVP and VHP workers on Republic Day.

No fresh violence was reported since Wednesday night in Kasganj, a PTI report said. However, the city looks like an impregnable fortress due to the heavy deployment of security personnel.
