Kashmir, March 4: Kashmiri separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, seems to be enjoying a distinct set of privileges when it comes to relations with the Jammu and Kashmir government. In a latest report, it has emerged that the government bent rules to provide Geelani’s grandson, Anees-ul-Islam, an out-of-turn job during the 2016 unrest in the valley.Also Read - Soldier Found Dead Inside Army Camp in Srinagar

Ironically, following the death of terrorist Burhan Wani, Geelani had called for increased protests across Kashmir. According to reports in TOI, highly placed sources have confirmed that Anees-ul-Islam has been appointed a research officer in the Sher-e-Kashmir international convection complex (SKICC). The SKICC is a wing of the tourism department of the Jammu and Kashmir government. However, while usual appointments to the post are made after a screening process by the J&K State Subordinate Services Recruitment Board or the state Public Service Commission, Islam was given the job based on the direct recommendation of highly placed sources within the government. According to sources, the placement was offered to placate the active Hurriyat leader who was calling for protests and shutdowns in the state. The lucrative job fetches an annual salary of Rs 12 lakhs, in addition to being pensionable. However, the TOI report quotes tourism secretary, Farooq Shah, as having said that all rules had been followed.

He is reported to have further added, “We invited applications from candidates; he was found fit for the post.”Geelani’s grandson has an MBA from Jalandhar, Punjab. He also has another Masters in Business Administration obtained from an institute in the United Kingdom.
