Srinagar, Oct 3: A day after terrorists unsuccessfully attacked the Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) camp in Baramulla, another terror scare has been reported from Kashmir Valley. According to early reports, terrorists attacked a ‘minor police picket’ in Samnoo village of DH Pora. The area falls under South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The terrorists snatched away 5 self-loading rifles from police personnel stationed at the spot. After snatching away the rifles, the terrorists reportedly flew from the spot. More details are awaited in the case. News agency ANI has confirmed the development.
A ‘minority police picket’ is a police picket in an area inhabited by minority groups. No casualties has been caused due to altercation between the terrorists and police personnel. An alarm bell has been sounded in Kulgam district. Search operations are likely to be initiated against the suspected terrorists. Meanwhile, an exhaustive hunt operation is already underway in Baramulla, where Special Operation Groups of Jammu & Kashmir police is searching the whereabouts of the 2-3 terrorists who escaped from the site of encounter near the Army’s 46 RR camp. Sources claim that the terrorists could had moved through the Jhelum tributary lying in the vicinity of the camp. There could also be a possibility that the terrorists could had been provided a safe haven by the locals in Baramulla, India Today sources claimed. Following the surgical strikes conducted by Indian para commando across the Line of Control (LoC), a high-alert has been sounded within Kashmir Valley. There is a possibility that Pakistan could retaliate against the cross-border assault through its sleeper cells in the conflicted region. Security has been tightened across the state and measures have been enacted to avert fidayeen strikes with the modus operandi of Uri attack. According to defence experts, Indian forces have learnt lessons from the Uri attack and were well prepared to thwart the terror operations in Baramulla.
In the surgical strikes carried out by India, more than 50 terrorists were reportedly killed. Pakistan has denied such claims made by India, and has instead claimed that Indian army violated ceasefire and resorted to heavy firing, which resulted in the death of it’s 2 soldiers.
