Srinagar, April 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday detained Kashmiri cricketers allegedly after videos of them flaunting Pakistani jerseys and singing the Pakistan national anthem in Kashmir went viral. Reports say that the cricketers have been detained for questioning. Following the detention, locals are reportedly protesting outside the Ganderbal Police Station and demanded that the men be released.
This came after a video of the Kashmir Media Service, a news portal, uploaded it on its website. The video shows Kashmiri cricketers playing a match in a field on April 2, reportedly the Wayil field in Ganderbal, flaunting green jerseys and singing the Pakistani national anthem.
Reports say that locals have claimed that it was a match between India and Pakistan and that the video that has gone viral shows the players who were representing the Pakistani team.
The locals, according to some reports, have also claimed that the players representing the Indian team were wearing a different jersey and the Indian national anthem was also sung at the match. However, there is no confirmation on this yet.
