New Delhi, April 21: Days after the investigation began into the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl from Kathua, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the district Suleman Choudhary has been transferred in the wake of the outrage. He has been replaced with Shridhar Patil, who was earlier posted as SP Kulgam.
Reports claim that Suleman Choudhary has been posted as AIG, CIV PHQ. Though it has been reported that it was a routine transfer but the development came after the alleged involvement of some district police officers in the horrific crime.
In Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, the body an eight-year-old Bakerwal girl was found. The minor girl had disappeared from near her home in the forests next to Rasana village. She was brutally raped and murdered from January 10 to 17. After an initial arrest, protests followed questioning the handling of the case by the local police. The case was then transferred to Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Crime Branch, which filed a charge sheet earlier this month.
