New Delhi, May 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir unit has reportedly shared a video on its official website, raising a question on the investigation by J&K police and arrests in the horrific Kathua rape and murder case. The video featured Supreme Court advocate Monika Arora, who was also a member of the fact-finding team that studied the rape and murder of the eight-year-old Bakarwal girl. The move came days before Apex Court’s hearing on Monday.
Earlier also Arora had said that the fact-finding team, who visited Kathua on April 23 and 24 found many “loopholes” in the investigation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Raising questions over the police probe, Arora said, “We talked to the family of the victim and the accused, police officials, government and people in Kathua and found that things which are on the ground are not in the police chargesheet and vice versa.” (Also Read: Accused’s Lawyer Makes Sexist Remark, Says ‘Probe Was Led by Woman Investigator, How Intelligent Can She Be?)
Notably, the fact-finding team submitted its report on Friday, demanding a CBI probe to Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Minister in PMO Jitendra Singh promised to forward it to the court in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jitendra Singh’s promise came after the five-member team of “Group of Intellectuals and Academicians” (GIA), comprising a retired judge, an advocate, a journalist, a professor and an educationist, submitted its report to him at his residence. It was later given to the Home Minister.
The eight-year-old girl was abducted on January 10 and allegedly held captive inside a temple in Rasana village of Hiranagar area. She was allegedly drugged and raped repeatedly before being murdered. Her body was found dumped in the adjoining forest area on January 17.
The chargesheet filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the abduction, rape and killing of the Bakerwal girl was part of a carefully planned strategy to remove the minority nomadic community from the area.
