The trailer for Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra starrer, “Baar Baar Dekho,” officially released on August 3 on Eros Now. The film, which sees this couple on-screen for the first time, is a time-traveling romance drama.

Malhotra and Kaif play Jai and Diya, a couple for whom everything seems to be flowing smoothly until she asks him to marry her. As the wedding events go on, he decides to call it quits to focus on his career instead of rushing into a commitment. When he wakes up the next morning, 10 days have passed and he is on his honeymoon, unable to remember how he got there. The next day, he’s two years into the future, confused about how that happened.  And later, we see him as a 46-years-old who is experiencing difficulties in his relationship with Diya and feels his life is miserable. But that’s why he is sent back in time to fix the mistakes of his past, which begins with him showing affection and love to his family.

If the plot sounds a little familiar, it’s because the movie sounds like a mix between “Groundhog Day,” starring Andie McDowell and Bill Murray and “13 Going on 30” starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. In the latter, Jenna (Garner) wishes she was older and the next day, wakes up as a successful but an awful person, so she decides to set her life straight. In the “Groundhog Day,” Phil Connors (Murray) get stuck in a time loop, repeating the same day over and over till he decides to re-examine the errors of his way.

However, “Baar Baar Dekho” has enough spins to make it work as Bollywood film. Produced under the Dharma banner, the film boasts excellent music.

The first song, an updated version of “Kala Chashma” is already topping the charts. Zee Music Company has released the full jukebox of all the film’s songs.

What works the most is the unexpected chemistry between the lead pair, both on and off-screen apparently.

Diya is free-spirited and fun-loving which obviously means Jai is the polar opposite, a nerdy, ambitious guy. Both the actors manage to pull off these roles well. Kai’s recent films like “Bang Bang,” “Phantom,”  and “Fitoor” have seen the actress in a more action-oriented, dramatic role so it will be an excellent change to see her in a different light. And as usual, she looks totally stunning.

As for Malhotra, his last release “Kapoor & Sons,” also a Dharma movie, further cemented his impression but also proved he can do better with his acting. Let’s hope “Baar Baar Dekho,” which shows him exploring different ages, helps this goal.

The film also stars Ram Kapoor, Sayani Gupta, All India Bakchod’s Rohan Joshi, and Tasha Badusha. Directed by Nitya Mehra, “Baar Baar Dekho” releases on September 9, 2016.
