Kottayam, Apr 1: Members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) allegedly resorted to violent protest on Sunday after a student of Crossroads School, Pampady in Kerala committed suicide. The family of the deceased alleged that the school management refused to promote him to the next class, forcing him to take the extreme step.
Binto, a class 9 student, committed suicide on Saturday night. According to Binto’s father, he was upset because the school has refused to promote him to class 10 as he scored poor marks in class 9. Following the incident, members of the SFI barged into the campus and damaged school property.
Police had to resort to lathi charge to control the violent activists. While the victim’s father claimed that the school threatened to remove his son, the management rejected the allegation. Speaking to media, the school management said that the school never threatened the boy over promotion.
However, the school accepted that as per the rule those score below 40 per cent in class 9 exam would not be promoted to class 10. The SFI is demanding a special investigation into the suicide incident.
